After the file is downloaded, the installer will launch automatically unless auto-install is disabled on your computer. If the installer doesn't launch, go to the folder where you saved the installer file and double click it. If you can't remember where you saved the installer, use your operating system's "Search" or "Find File" function to locate the file called "SwitchZooInstaller". When you locate the file, double-click it to start the installation.
After
Switch Zoo Deluxe has been installed, a shortcut will appear on your
desktop and under your Start menu, on Windows. It will be in your
Programs folder on Mac. Look for the red and orange Switch
Zoo logo.
On
Windows: After you insert the CD, the installer will launch automatically
unless autorun is disabled on your computer. (It is disabled by default
on Windows XP). If the installer doesn't launch, double-click the
CD named "SwitchZooDeluxe" and the file named "setup.exe".
On Mac: After you insert the CD, the SwitchZooDeluxe icon will appear on the desktop. Double-click it to open the CD, then double click on the file named "SwitchZooInstaller."
After downloading, when I double-click on the Mac installation file, a dialog box says “The file 'switchzooinstaller.app.sitx' does not appear to be compressed or encoded.” What should I do?
When I tried to open the Mac Switchzoo installer, my computer tells me this message: "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file." What's wrong?
Your copy of Stuffit may be outdated or corrupt. (Stuffit is a program that launches downloaded installers on the Mac). To correct the problem, go to your Applications folder and delete the “Stuffit Standard” folder by dragging it to in the trash. Download a new, free copy of Stuffit here: http://my.smithmicro.com/mac/stuffit/expander.html
The most likely reason is that the file is corrupted. The download was unsuccessful, and the program will not install. The solution: download the file again. First, you should delete your temporary internet files.
Here's how to do it:
Using Internet Explorer: Tools/Internet Options/Temporary internet
files. Choose Delete files.
Using Firefox: Tools/Options/Privacy/ Clear all info stored while
browsing. Choose Clear All.
After deleting the temporary files, restart your computer and
download Switch Zoo Deluxe again.
Yes, you can change from a full-screen display to viewing Switch Zoo in a window by: on Windows, hold down the Control key and press the F key; on Mac, hold down the Command key and press the F key. Repeat the keystrokes to return to the full-screen view.
Older computers with very limited memory, and computers with too many other applications running at the same time may have memory problems. If you're playing and everything starts playing slower than usual, just quit Switch Zoo and start it again. (If you have written a story, save it first in My Switch Zoo).
You should make a print of every story you've written. If you have a CD burner, burn a copy of the Switch Zoo Deluxe folder. The 55 MB folder is usually located at C:\Program Files\SwitchZooDeluxe folder on Windows, and in the Applications folder on Mac.
Your firewall is preventing Switch Zoo Deluxe from working with your email program. Work-around: In the Office, click Visit Switch Zoo Online and, on the site, use the Write Us button at the top the page.
Switch Zoo Deluxe is installed superficially in your computer: the program files are copied onto your hard drive, the program is added to your Programs menu (on Windows); and a shortcut is placed on your desktop. No system-level modifications take place.
On Windows: Open the Control Panel, located under the Start menu.
Double-click Add or Remove Programs, select Switch Zoo Deluxe from
the list, then click Uninstall.
On Mac: Locate the Switch Zoo Deluxe folder in your Applications
folder, and drag it into the trash. Do the same for the alias.
